ANGEL PEREZ

(ALUMNI)

I am a Chicano artist, born and raised in Adams Morgan, Washington D.C. The themes in my prints represent disenfranchised people in different struggles, with some satirical narratives and images of neo-tribalism. My themes are always surrounded by multiple cultures and include scenes of merging cultures into Unity. The satirical narratives sometimes act as comic relief to some of the political tones present in some of my prints.

My style is influenced by the diverse cultural imagery found in community murals in Chicano and African American communities, Comic books from Milestone media, the Hip-Hop Movement, and The Mexican Mural Movement. My artwork sheds light on these struggles through narratives and detailed scenes, in the most honest way possible while entertaining and educating viewers through prints and murals. I hope that my public artwork can entertain, educate, and awaken people of all walks of life, while also keeping the most honest and original style of my own narratives.
